JAEA is a comprehensive nuclear research organization. One of JAEA's priority areas is the R&D of HTGR with its inherent safety characteristics, which can contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality by suppling stable and large amount of hydrogen. JAEA has a research reactor of HTGR named as HTTR (High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor) in Oarai-machi, Ibaraki Prefecture and is obtaining operational data and demonstrating excellent safety features on HTGRs. JAEA newly started a HTTR-heat application test which will demonstrate hydrogen production using the nuclear heat from HTTR.
